This is my pride and joy, Lily. I rescued her from a shelter in December and she had coccidia, ear mites, and a bacteria infection. My boyfriend and I nursed/babied her every day for a month and then she evolved into this super happy/hyper/energy-filled kitty. A week and a half ago she went back downhill and developed serious, serious eye problems and a fever as well as weight loss. We took her to the vet and he gave us antibiotics and we went home. A day later she had to stay overnight because her temperature went back up to 103 again. We had her home the day after for a few days and then had to take her and leave her up there for 6 days. She came home and ever since she’s been a lot better. She tested negative for FIV, diabetes, and other things but her glucose level was a little elevated but not diabetic range. We took her back yesterday, she’s down to 2.7 pounds from the 3.2 she was a week before. He gave her an antibiotic shot and a steroid shot and will see her back in two weeks. Her lungs sound fine and she has no swelling/fluid build up anywhere. She is just simply underweight and has the eye problem. She loves to play and is still pretty active. It’s believed that she either has FIP or toxoplasmosis. She’s gone through so much pain and yet she’s fought through it all like a champion and is still the kindest baby that wants to cuddle on your chest under the blankets at night. I have a fellow cat-loving friend that suggested doing what is best and putting her to sleep so she won’t be in so much pain. I went to sleep crying, woke up crying, and cried in/before classes today at the thought of that or even losing her. I can’t bear the thought of carrying my baby into a vet knowing that I won’t be coming out with her. I just can’t do it. I’m not going to give up on her no matter what this illness turns out to be. I feel hopeless in a sense but at the same time I have to stay strong but I can honestly say I’ve never had this kind of heartache before. I’m writing this to get my feelings out and find some form of comfort in hopefully making others aware of how horrible FIP, FIV, and FELV truly are. Please make sure your cat is tested and vaccinated.
